UN DESA Publishes Professor Xiaolan Fu’s Op-Ed: Will the United Nations have another 80 years?

5 Nov 2025

Yesterday, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) published an op-ed by Professor Xiaolan Fu titled “Will the United Nations have another 80 years?” — to which she gives a confident “Yes.”
Since 2008, Professor Fu, founder of OxValue.AI, has closely collaborated with multiple UN agencies, including UN DESA, UNCTAD, UNIDO, the ILO, ITU, and UNEP. She has served on UN DESA’s High-Level Advisory Board, advised the Technology Facilitation Mechanism and the UN Technology Bank, participated in expert group meetings, and reviewed key UN reports.
In her article, she highlights the UN’s indispensable contributions over the past 80 years — from peacebuilding and humanitarian relief to climate action and inclusive development. In an era of intensifying “polycrises”, she argues that no other institution matches the UN’s convening power, moral authority, commitment to justice, equality, and leaving no one behind. Even amid global divisions, the UN remains the only body consistently working to build common ground, resolve conflicts, and advance peace and development.
