Recently, according to a report by Forbes, Anthropic, an AI startup behind Claude (a competitor to ChatGPT), is seeking to raise $2 billion in new funding. As calculated by Forbes, with Anthropic’s valuation surging to $60 billion. Our white paper released in September 2024 revealed that Anthropic’s valuation was estimated at $64.34 billion. This valuation not only reflects Anthropic’s outstanding performance in the AI field but also recognizes its immense potential in AI safety. It marks the seventh instance where our valuations have been validated by the market.
Industry Insights: Anthropic, an innovative company focused on artificial intelligence technology, was founded in 2021 by seven former OpenAI employees. With its robust technical expertise and innovative capabilities, the company developed the popular chatbot Claude, widely regarded as a strong competitor to ChatGPT. Anthropic places a particular emphasis on AI safety, with its technology showcasing potential in certain areas that surpass OpenAI. In the summer of 2024, the company launched an upgraded model series called Claude 3.5. At the time, CEO Dario Amodei told Forbes that Claude 3.5 continued the trend of offering smarter, faster, and more cost-effective technology. In October of the same year, Anthropic introduced a “computer usage” feature, enabling Claude to operate a computer like a human. As early as January 2024, Anthropic completed a funding round led by Menlo Ventures, which valued the company at $15 billion. Ten months later, Amazon committed an additional $4 billion in investment. By January 2025, Anthropic secured $2 billion in a new funding round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, pushing its valuation to a staggering $60 billion.
